The images are a compilation of fragments of randomly selected portraits from Nowa encyklopedia powszechna PWN (the PWN New Universal Encyclopedia, 1998), together with elements of other likenesses converted into negatives. Against them appears a textual layer – the artist’s own paraphrase of a text generated by the GPT-4o model (OpenAI, March 2025). The model was asked to produce biographical entries that form a hallucinated synthesis of the life stories of the portrayed figures, or of the figures themselves and the authors of their portraits. The text consists of a “cloud” of letters without spaces or punctuation, from which a legible message emerges. The project draws on fragments of the biographies of the following figures: S. Beckett, G. Bellini, M. Brando, K. Danczowska, J. Gielgud, G. Lampi, A. Moravia and St Jadwiga of Poland.
