What is the World

object (print on glass, artist’s book, display case), 2025

The text quoted in the work is the opening lines of Samuel Beckett’s what is the word, inscribed into the shape of the first sentences of the same author’s The Lost Ones. The number of letters in each word, together with the gaps and the punctuation of The Lost Ones, has been preserved and filled with the successive letters of what is the word. Both texts are used in Antoni Libera’s Polish translation (No właśnie co. Dramaty i proza, Państwowy Instytut Wydawniczy, Warsaw 2010). A reproduction of a unique book created by the artist for the occasion, its contents treated in this way, has been applied to the upper pane of the display case, inside which lies a similar book with blank pages.
